DIY Bottle Jars

Hello Style Minds!

So besides fashion, I really love to do creative projects especially DIYs. I’ve been saying that I would do a DIY post and now I’m finally following through!! This post is going to show you how you can use empty Starbucks Frappuccino bottles and turn them into a decorative piece for your home.

Supplies Needed:
-Empty bottles
-Bucket or some sort of container
-Nail polish remover or type of rubbing alcohol
-Olive oil
-Paint
-Styrofoam Bowls
-Anything else you want to use to decorate (i.e ribbon, string, jewel pieces)

So first off what you want to do is make sure that you've cleaned out the bottle. Just rinse with water a couple times.

Next what you want to do is remove the labels. Now of course it is not as simple as just pealing it off the bottle. An easy method to remove these labels is by soaking them warm soapy water. Grab a bucket or some sort of container and make sure the bottles are completely submerged into the water. Leave it in for at least an hour. The longer you leave it in, the easier it is to peel off.

Then after you’re peeled off the labels, be sure to dry the bottles first. As you can see, these is still some sticky residue left from the labels. Now there is a product that you can buy that removes this but many of us might not have something like that laying around the house. What I do is I soak a cotton pad with nail polish remover (or rubbing alcohol) and rub it onto the residue. There still might be a little left and what you can do is take a rag and pour a little bit of olive oil and rub it on there. This should remove it completely.

Now once you’re bottles are cleaned out it’s time to decorate them! Now you may decorate them any way you like. If you already have ideas you may stop here, but here is what I do. First take a Styrofoam bowl and fill it with paint. Here I’m just using regular acrylic paint. Next, place the bottle into the bowl. You may tilt the bowl in any which way to get the patterned you desire.

Once you've finished place the bottles upside down to let them dry. Now there are two different things you can do. The paint tends to drip down on the bottle creating this really cool drip effect. But if it is now what you want, you can easily just scratch the excess paint away.

Finally once you have the bottle decorated, you can add any little extra touches and turn them into anything you’d like. I turned my bottles into a candle holder, and a little jar to hold little scrolls with quotes and inspirational messages.

These make a perfect DIY gift for friends and family. They also are a great way to decorate a room. I hope you find this post inspiring. If you try it out I would love for you to send me pictures!

Until the next chapter!

Fringe Fun

Hello Style Minds!

I apologize that I don’t post that often. Things are hectic in my life. I’m in my last semester of my first year of Uni, so school work takes up a big chuck of my time. I’m trying to figure out what other kinds of post that I’ll be create so stay tuned for that.

So spring weather is finally upon us. Some of us are happy… some of us aren’t (Me being one of them haha). Though warmer weather means that playing with fashion becomes more fun! We start seeing more colors, we see pieces with more movement, and we see accessorizing to the max! One of the only downsides to spring are the cold mornings but warm afternoon. Here’s what I do as a happy medium.

Hat: Walmart
Sunglasses: Plato’s Closet
Top: H&M
Cardigan: Ross
Shorts: Plato’s Closet
Tights: Walmart
Boots: Belk
Necklace: Charlotte Russe

Now as you can see my outfit is focused on movement. I absolutely love anything fringe, and I instantly just fell in love with the lace kimono jacket. Fringe gives off that fun bohemian vibe whenever you’re just twirling around or even standing still, you still have that fun movement. I may be sporting dark colors, but I’m still able to feel light because of the fabric materials. I just can’t let dark colors go no matter what season. To keep from sporting all black (even tho all black outfits are super chic and always a go to) I decided to break out my little floral print shorts. I’ve always liked smaller floral prints, they just look at feel more dainty and can easily played to give off a different feel to your outfit depending on what you wear with it.

So between school work and social interactions, whenever I have time to myself I love making shirts. I do custom designs for myself as well as other people. I’ve slowly started taking orders from a few friends and post of those will be up sometime in the future. I’ll also post up a few more shirts I’ve created for myself. If you would like to see my creations, I’ve opened up an Instagram to post them @creative.bb

Until the next chapter!
